We are having another volunteer workday this Saturday Oct 7th again working between spans 1 and 3. A huge amount of work has been done between these spans and one more session will be enough to remove all the vegetation from the piles of rubble so we can get some machinery in to remove the major stumps and piles of rubble. A medium sized skip has been delivered so we can make a start on removing some of the rubble.
The tasks for Saturday will include:
Litter picking: Light work
Cutting back brambles and scrub vegetation Medium work
Exposing road from advancing vegetation Medium to heavy
Filling skip with rubble Medium to heavy
Breaking up mounds of solidified tarmac Heavy
Removing bramble roots Medium
Stump removal Heavy
Tea person (keeping Kelly kettle boiled) Light.
The workday will start at 10:00 am and go on until approx. 3:00 pm. Come for as long or as short as you want. We will be meeting under the viaduct. Access from Newtons Lane. The barrier will be open from 9:30 am onwards. The track to the viaduct us situated between the River Erewash and the new railway bridge on Newtons Lane. The priority tasksfor the day is to fully fill the skip and to remove vegetation from the mounds so we can see exactly what and how much we have to shift.
The focus this Saturday will be to continue the work in spans 1 to three. This area will eventually become an events area where we can have open day events, theatre groups performances and arts events. It is currently overgrown with much unwanted vegetation which covers a lot of tipped material. We want to prepare the area for a skip or two to remove all the unwanted materials and rubble.
The tasks will include:
- Lopping of vegetation, brambles, bindweed etc. (Moderate)
- Litter picking on and around the viaduct. (Gentle)
- Pruning back vegetation on approach road. (Gentle)
