Full Steam Ahead

Its all systems go for the Viaduct. Nearly £0.5m has been secured, a planning application has been submitted and if the remaining funds are secured, we are looking for work to start later this year. Our thanks go to Bill Tomson at RPL who has done a phenomenal job putting bids together for funders and putting the planning application together.

Annual General Meeting Monday April 15th 7:00pm

What a difference a year makes. At this time last year, we did not know if we had a project. A year on, nearly £0.5m has been secured, a planning application has been submitted and the Friends group are acquiring charitable status. Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday, April 15th 2019 at The Gate Inn, Awsworth at 7:00 pm.

The meeting will take place in two halves. The first part will be the AGM where the formal proceedings will take place. Chairmans report, Treasurers Report, election of Officers etc.

The second part of the meeting will be less formal and include an update on events, questions and answers, opportunities for members to become involved, ideas and suggestions re ways forward.

Only members of the FoBV will be eligible to vote on any motion or proposal however, whether you are a member or not, you will be welcome at the meeting.

Volunteer Workday Saturday March 30th

Our next work party will take place on Saturday, March 30th 2019 between 10:00 am and 3:00pm. We will be working under the middle spans of the viaduct. These spans are heavily overgrown with hawthorn, bramble and other scrub species. We need to prepare these spans to promote biodiversity and to create the new footpath under the viaduct.

The scrub clearing tasks will include:

  • Lopping,
  • Hawthorn removal,
  • Scrub removal,
  • Tree pruning and cutting back.
  • The creation of some habitat piles.
  • Removing roots.
  • Cutting back bracken.

We will bring tools and protective gloves but if you have your own, please bring them.

If you arrive during the morning or afternoon, we will be working under the central spans so you will have to find us. Come for as long or as short as you can manage, it will be good to see you. The difference we are making under the viaduct is simply inspirational

The barrier on Newtons Lane will be open from 9:30 onwards so you can bring your car up to the viaduct.  See Map   Come for an hour, a morning or for the day. All welcome.
